On August 21st Eva’s Village welcomed a volunteer team from a local American Turkish Youth Group, in Elmwood Park to serve the noon meal in its kitchen program. With fasting comes both thirst and hunger and an appreciation for these basic needs which sustain life as well as a heightened sense of awareness for those who are less fortunate, who “fast” due to poverty and depravation.
This group of young people chose this time to demonstrate their solidarity with those less fortunate by fasting themselves and by funding meals for those most in need at Eva’s Village. “We’re honestly a bunch of young people who just want to make a positive difference,” stated Ms. Eda Tekeoglu, the group’s spokesperson. “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” (Helen Keller)
